Kick Boxing
WHAT IS IT?
Kickboxing is a group of stand-up combat sports based on kicking and punching, historically developed from Karate, Muay Thai, and Western boxing. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport.
WHY IS IT GOOD FOR ME?
KickBoxing training provides some of the best all-over body conditioning you can get including:
- Improved heart and lung function
- Muscle toning and increased energy
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST
Individual sessions usually cost around £3 to £5 and many clubs offer affordable subscriptions. Contact clubs directly to ask about fees or subscriptions.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
All you need is clothing you can exercise comfortably in, such as:
- A sports bra is essential, and you should train in clothing you feel comfortable in
- A t-shirt or vest and leggings, tracksuit bottoms or shorts is usually acceptable for beginners
If you attend a taster session, the club will usually provide you with gloves if using pads. Bag gloves are inexpensive and available at most sports shops
To spar or compete you will need a gum shield.
You can buy specialist boxing boots, but for beginners, a pair of trainers with good support is usually good enough.
